Mr Smart's Spritual Song (& the Playlist)

My spritual song is Roll Away Your Stone, by Mumford and Sons.  This is possibly my favourite song from the last year.  I love the images of grace and the tortured nature of the singer's journey.  Perhaps the most important part of it for me is that his journey is being worked out in debate with another person.  Spirituality for me is about engaging with these big questions and doing so with other people.  The most shocking thing about this track is that I never thought I would like country music... but I am claiming this isn't... it's London-Alt-Folk ;).

Thanks to all of you for posting your spiritual songs.  Here are the tracks you can expect to hear this week.  If you track is not here it means one of the following things: a) I couldn't find it b) it had explicit lyrics, or references to drugs/alcohol/etc.. c) I couldn't find a cheap enough version.  Pester me if you want it to appear!

Spiritual Music

Objective

To explore the concept of spirituality by identifying spiritual elements in popular music.

Task
  • Read the wikipedia definition of spirituality, and see if you agree...
  • Listen to the radio and look through your music collection to see if you can find a track that has spiritual content.
  • The only tracks you can't choose are those which are used for worship in a religion (ie Amazing Grace).
  • Make a post on your blog including the name of the track, a link to the lyrics, or music (legal please) and a reflection explaining why you chose the music, and how the content is spiritual.
  • I will play the best tracks in class
